How to get Korean Visa for Filipinos in Thailand?

Even if I don’t succeed, I’m going to just go for it.

– Park Seo Joon

When I first visited Korea (Jeju Island) I instantly fell in love with this country. I was eager to see what this country could show me. Eversince I was a child, Korean series has been part of of our lives. Who would forget Jangeum of Jewel in the Palace, Jumong or Princess Hours?

Many of us might be imagining that Visa application might be tough. Well, it turned out to be true. It is time consuming and you have to rely on yourself. However, what I am thinking everytime that I am applying for Korean Visa would be the super cheap beauty products, soju, kimbap, tteok-bokki, bulgogi, and of course samgyeopsal.

If you are lazy enough, you can apply through agencies wherein you have to pay maybe around 2,000 – 4,000 baht. However, I don’t recommend this since it would be much cheaper if you will do it yourself.

What are the requirements I sent to the embassy?

  • Application form (please download it here)
  • Passport with 6 months validity
  • Photocopy of the first page of your passport
  • Photocopy of your Thai Visa with re-entry
  • Work Permit – Original and Photocopy (at least 2 years)
  • Bank Statement with a minimum of 20K Baht (6 months) together with a photocopy of your passbook in the last 6 months.
  • Payslip & Certificate of Employment
  • Hotel Reservation
  • NO NEED for an Airplane ticket
  • Filipinos don’t need to pay VISA (Gratis as they call it)
  • Picture (1.5-inch photo) (taken within last 6 months, front view against a white background, must be attached on the form)

Kindly fill out the form truthfully. (Yung totoo lang, ‘wag na tayong maglokohan para di tayo masaktan) They have a photocopier and photobooth inside the Embassy just in case you forgot something.

With regards to the work permit, I know some of my friends tried to apply for a visa and ended up getting rejected because of their work permit. Otherwise, the embassy will tell you to apply in your home country. You can still try though since the application is free.

Your Certificate of Employment must include your position, the day you started working and your salary. Please ask your HR personnel to put their contact number just in case the embassy would like to verify your work.

Tips: For hotel reservations, go to booking.com, filter the accommodations and check those who do not require prepayment, free cancellation or no credit card requirements. If in case your visa application is not granted, you may still cancel it for free.

Where is the Korean Embassy in Bangkok?

If you are taking bus, your landmark would be Big C Ratchada. From there you can take a motorcyle for 20 – 40 baht. It really depends on the driver.

The process…

You have to be in the Embassy before 11AM. The earlier the better. They only accept VISA Application between 8.30 – 11.00 a.m. Monday to Friday (Except weekend and National holidays)

If your documents are good, they will accept it. If there’s missing, the consuls are very nice and they will tell you what else do you need to comply.

Then, you have to pick up after 5 days. For unknown reasons, the date they wrote on my receipt was just 4 days or maybe I miscalculated it. Haha

Voila! I got my visa. The good thing about the Korean Embassy is if they reject your application, they will tell you the reason why and you can prepare after 6 months.
